The seaside resort of Sorrento has been a popular tourist destination for centuries and it's easy to see why with its fine piazzas, sidewalk cafes and glamorous shops. You are free to arrive at any time. We will have our welcome meeting at 6 pm.
Take a short train this morning to Ercolano to visit the atmospheric Roman ruins of Herculaneum – like Pompeii, it was destroyed in a river of mud from the eruption of Vesuvius in AD79. Take a tour and learn how people lived here around 2,000 years ago.
Explore the museums, galleries and piazzas of Sorrento on today's free day. Perhaps explore the coastal paths, along the old donkey trails that originally linked the villages of the peninsula.
Head across the glorious Bay of Naples to the island of Capri, a sought-after destination since Roman times. With dramatic coastlines, winding roads, fragrant citrus groves, quaint villages and stylish shops and cafes, Capri is a place of diverse beauty with endless activities for the whole family to enjoy. Be mesmerised by the Blue Grotto, a luminescent cave accessed by row boat.
Enjoy a free day relaxing by the pool or exploring more of Sorrento.
Today is volcano day – first we’ll visit Pompeii, frozen in time by the ash and pumice of the infamous eruption, before walking to the summit of Vesuvius and even peering deep down into the stunning crater, the source of the chaos you witnessed in the morning and at Herculaneum.
The penultimate day has been left free to allow for some flexibility – either stay in town and explore Sorrento’s glamorous shops and cafes or soak up the charming atmosphere of the surrounding countryside. It’s also possible to take a trip along the scenic Amalfi coastline.
Head back into lovely Sorrento and say 'ciao' to a wonderful Italian family holiday.
