ABOUT US
We at Our Whole Village love to explore other cultures through food. What better excuse to sample Turkish baklava, German apple pancakes and English rhubarb tart (not to mention eat some batter and lick the spatula)? Cooking is a great way to encourage kids to learn about different countries and cultures and maybe try some new foods while they’re at it.
We have a number of recipes that we’ve gathered ourselves over the years. But, sometimes we want some new inspiration. When we do, we look to the following great websites.
A Little Yumminess. Hands down our favorite kid-friendly international cooking website is A Little Yumminess. These two moms, with three kids between them, share recipes from around the world, favorite foodie destinations and ideas for bringing up adventurous eaters. Located in San Francisco, they also offer summer cooking camps for kids. We wish we still lived there so we could cook our way through summer with them!
Kids Cooking Activities. This website has lots of age-appropriate recipes from around the world. What we love is that it also includes food facts, native words or phrases, and pictures from each country or region.
Super Healthy Kids. Following the 2014 Olympics, the moms behind this great website compiled recipes from nine countries. What a fun way to celebrate the Olympics and try some international recipes, even during the off years!
Spoonful. This site has 1,041 international family-focused recipes to pick from. Organized into galleries by region, country, holiday or type of food, it’s a great place to look for meal-time inspiration.
Parents. The folks over at Parents.com have compiled five delicious recipes from around the world. The best part is that they did so with picky eaters in mind. So maybe, just maybe, your finicky little chefs will actually dig in.
Want more recipes from around the world? Sign up for our e-mails and we’ll send you a free copy of “Around the World in 12 Recipes,” our e-cookbook. It will have you exploring other cultures and licking batter before you know it!
