ABOUT US
Tucked Between Mexico and Central America, Guatemala offers an immersive mix of ancient civilizations, vibrant culture, rich biodiversity, and stunning natural beauty — all within easy reach and with fewer crowds than other destinations.
Guatemala may not be the first destination that comes to mind for a family vacation, but it absolutely should be. With its stunning natural beauty, vibrant indigenous culture, and opportunities for both adventure and relaxation, this Central American gem offers something for every member of the family.
We’ve just returned from an in-depth exploration of the country with trusted local partners, and we’re thrilled to share why Guatemala is the perfect destination for families looking for meaning, adventure, and connection.
Our sample itineraries are tailored with curious clients in mind — blending interactive cultural experiences, outdoor adventures, and moments of rest and connection. Whether you’re traveling with curious teens or energetic younger kids, or with a group of adults, Guatemala offers a vibrant and meaningful alternative to more traditional tourist spots.
Kick off your adventure in Antigua, a perfectly preserved colonial town nestled between three volcanoes. The cobblestone streets, colorful facades, and baroque architecture make it feel like a step back in time — while the lively artisan markets and excellent cafes make it incredibly welcoming to singles, couples and families alike.
Highlights include:
Insider Note: I recently had the opportunity to attend REMOTE Latin America, held right here in Antigua. This inspiring event brought together some of the most passionate boutique travel designers, hoteliers, and local suppliers from across Central and South America. It was an incredible few days of meaningful conversations, firsthand insights, and new partnerships. Thanks to those connections, we’re now able to offer even more thoughtfully vetted, authentic experiences throughout the region — from hidden eco-lodges and family-run estancias to immersive cultural encounters you won’t find online.
Day 4: Arrival and Exploration
Take in the views from a lakefront lodge and relax with some free time. A scenic boat ride will give you your first introduction to the lake’s cultural diversity and stunning landscape.
Day 5: Cultural Immersion
Visit San Juan la Laguna, a Tz’utujil Maya town known for its female-led weaving cooperatives and traditional dyeing techniques. Participate in a hands-on textile workshop and meet local artisans.
Day 6: Outdoor Adventure
Choose your adventure! Families can enjoy kayaking or paddleboarding, hike to scenic viewpoints, or try a traditional Maya temazcal (steam bath) experience. You can also visit a nearby permaculture farm for a fun, interactive learning experience about sustainability.
Day 7: Arrival and Flores Exploration
Settle into your jungle eco-lodge or lakefront boutique hotel. Explore the charming island town of Flores with its artisan shops and lakeside paths.
Day 8: Tikal National Park
Spend a full day exploring the ancient Maya city of Tikal, hidden in the heart of the jungle. A kid-friendly guide brings the history to life with engaging storytelling and games. Climb temples, spot monkeys and toucans, and discover what daily life was like in this once-thriving metropolis.
Day 9: Adventure or Relaxation
Choose a second activity based on your family’s interests. You might visit the less-crowded site of Yaxhá, take a wildlife-spotting boat ride, zipline through the canopy, or simply relax and swim.
Day 10: Return Home
Fly back to Guatemala City for your international flight — or extend your trip with a visit to the Caribbean coast or the Highlands.
Guatemala is a land of contrasts: ancient ruins and colorful markets, misty mountains and sunlit lakes, spiritual traditions and vibrant modern culture. And yet, it remains under-the-radar for most travelers — making it a wonderful opportunity for travelers seeking something unique and meaningful.
From logistics to accommodations, our trusted local partners ensure that our clients feel supported and safe every step of the way. Whether you’re introducing your kids to Maya history at Tikal or sharing laughter over handmade tortillas, Guatemala offers moments of deep connection.
If you’re looking for an adventure that weaves together nature, history, and culture, Guatemala checks all the boxes.
Whether you’re dreaming of a spring break escape, a summer adventure, or a winter cultural getaway, Guatemala delivers. It’s accessible (with nonstop flights from several U.S. cities), and packed with transformative experiences for travelers and families of all ages. Click below to get started.
