ABOUT US
Nearly 10 million residents live in Peru’s capital, Lima. Constructed along the Pacific Coast, the city offers ocean views, a delectable food scene, and Incan ruins. But these features won’t necessarily hold a child’s attention for long. Fortunately, when traveling Lima with kids, family activities abound making it a great stopover point on your next Peru family vacation.
Check out these three kid-friendly spots that’ll appeal to kids (and parents) during a family trip to Peru.
Ranked as the largest public water fountain complex in the world, your children will love exploring the Magic Water Circuit. Featuring 13 illuminated water fountains, aqueous adventures range from a colorful laser show to a water tunnel.
Open Wednesdays through Sundays from 3 pm to 10:30 pm, it’s located in the Parque de la Reserva in Central Lima. Your kids will remain entertained for hours here. Plan to stick around after dark to see the full effect of the vibrant, rainbow-colored laser show. And prepare to get wet on this Peru family adventure.
Parque de las Leyendas showcases a pre-Colonial archaeological site and museum for history buffs. The area also boasts a boating lake, playground, and botanical garden. So, you’ll find something for everyone. Open Mondays through Sundays from 9 am to 5:30 pm, the parks makes for a fun, flexible family outing.
Parque de las Leyendas also contains a fascinating zoo. Divided into four sections, three cover the geography of Peru: jungle, highlands, and coast. A fourth section contains international animals. Of course, not everyone likes zoos. And we get it. We’re not fans of animals kept in captivity, either. But this zoo appears clean and the animals well-cared for. What’s more, the displays appear both educational and kid-friendly.
We’re not sure if this last destination is more for kids or adults. After all, who doesn’t long for a little more chocolate in their life? The ChocoMuseo is your one-stop shop for all things cocoa. You’ll get the inside scoop on how chocolate is made, learn more about its history, and can even participate in chocolate workshops.
Workshops feature various activities geared towards adults and kids. They include bean-to-bar and truffle making classes. These can be booked in Spanish or English. Workshop and museum hours vary by location and activity. So, check their website for more details as you’re planning your Peru vacation.
Narrowing down family-friendly activities in Lima with kids is no simple matter. The city abounds with fun activities for all ages. But even the pickiest kiddos will be fascinated by the three kid-friendly spots above. So, consider making them a part of your next Peru family vacation.
