ABOUT US
Spain’s northwestern-most province, Galicia with kids is a must! With amazing seafood, great wines, beautiful beaches and a strikingly beautiful coastline, there’s something for everyone.
While Galicia may seem remote in relation to Spanish geography, it’s actually closer to Madrid than Maine is to New York City. Which is to say that if you should find yourself in Spain (Madrid or north, particularly), you must go to Galicia because, really, it’s not all that far.
Galicia speaks for itself so I decided to let the pictures (and captions) do the talking.
First things first: a good meal. Continuing our road trip, we drove up from Portugal and arrived in Pontevedra just in time for lunch. Restaurant Laoira didn’t disappoint, giving us our first nibble of some of Galicia’s outstanding seafood.
We rented 6 bedroom, 6-bathroom Casa Os Roxos. A GREAT house with amazing owners and everything you could possibly need: crib, highchair, immersion blender, 2 refrigerators, and loads of wine glasses, plus an “enchanted”garden with a swing!
Luck was on our side as we LOVE farmers markets and the big one in Ribeira happened to be on when we were there. We bought way too much cheese, bread and meat, as usual.
The famous (and visit worthy) Celtic ruins at Castro de Barona were nearby. The kids loved exploring and climbing and the views were breathtaking.
More food! We had lunch at O Forno in Noia. The seafood was incredible, especially the pulpo a la gallega (pictured). We tried lots of different shellfish that were new to us: percebes (a special Spanish barnacle), navajas (razor clams), and berbechos (cockles).
