Welcome to San Jose, the feisty capital of Costa Rica. Get to know this buzzing city on your own terms, browsing the plaza street stalls, moseying through the museums, or revelling in its lively nightlife.
Take a flight to Tortuguero this morning. Enjoy breakfast at the lodge before exploring the canals of Tortuguero National Park by boat and seeing wildlife on walks. There’s also time for rest and relaxation in the afternoon.
Explore the lush rainforest resting at the base of La Fortuna Volcano in Arenal National Park. A rafting excursion provides the chance to spot some fantastic wildlife such as sloths and Toucans. Enjoy a shower in the local waterfall and soak in the hot springs, or get a closer look at the volcano.
Continue southbound along the Pan American Highway through mangroves and palm plantations to the picturesque Costa Rican coast. Boasting abundant wildlife, turquoise water and white-sand beaches, Manuel Antonio National Park is a beautiful place to explore. Lap up the spoils of its beach setting, where rainforests meet the ocean, enjoy a jungle crocodile safari and take a guided hike through the rainforest, keeping a look out for colourful birds and flowers along the way.
Embark on a nature walk through the Carara Biological Reserve, trying to spot the rare scarlet macaw. Pass through the agricultural townships of Orotina and Atenas en route back to San Jose. Be sure to suss out the city's museums and take a final city stroll before this Costa Rican adventure comes to a close.
